Does Kaña Cuban Coffee come from Cuba?
No. Although Cuba produces some of the world’s finest ‘cafes’[coffees], the U.S. embargo does not currently allow coffee beans from Cuba to be sold in the U.S.

What makes Kaña Cuban Coffees different than other coffees?
Every coffee company out there claims to use the highest quality beans, maintain the highest ‘calidad’ [quality] standards and commitment to excellence. Well, we do too but that alone won’t make us ‘diferente’ [different]. What makes us better is our ‘estilo’ [style] of roasting and blending. Our coffees are blended different than ANY other coffee. We roast with a ‘tradicional’ [traditional] Cuban style that allows us to get deep dark roasts without any bitterness or burnt aftertaste. Our signature Hialeah Blend was developed to taste like a true Cuban coffee, smooth and strong, that can be used for espresso or as a traditional drip.

What kind of coffees do you use?
We use coffees from all over the ‘mundo’ [world] to create our blends.
What is Cuban coffee?

The term Cuban coffee has two meanings:

  1. Coffee beans that come from the island nation of Cuba.
  2. It is a type of coffee beverage consisting of a strong sweetened espresso shot served in a small demitasse cups.
What is espresso?

The term espresso has two meanings:

  1. It is a brewing method that forces pressurized boiling ‘agua’ [water] through finely ground coffee. This extracts the coffee’s most ’sabores’ [flavorful] components and aromatics, resulting in an intense and full-flavored brew.
  2. The term is also used to refer to a darker roasted coffee that is recommended for the espresso method of brewing. We recommend the Hialeah Blend for our espresso and for a full bodied drip coffee.
Why don’t you sell flavored coffee?
Our coffees have a very unique tastes that we feel do not need additional ’sabores’ [flavors]. Most people find our coffees ’suave’ [smooth] enough that they drink it black. However, if a flavored ‘cafe’ [coffee] is preferred, we recommend adding a flavored shot, such as Monin Gourmet flavoring to the coffee. Flavored shots allow you to control the type and amount of flavor desired.
Should I keep my coffee in the refrigerator or freezer to keep it fresh?
The best way to keep coffee ‘fresco’ [fresh] is to buy just enough to last you about a ’semana’ [week] or two. Coffee should be stored in an airtight, opaque container at room temperature. A lot of people think that coffee will stay fresher longer if it is stored in the freezer or refrigerator. This is not true. Freezers and refrigerators are full of ‘olores’ [odors] that your coffee will absorb. Refrigeration also causes condensation on the coffee that will cause the flavor to deteriorate faster.
How much caffeine is there in a cup of coffee or a shot of espresso?
  • 12 oz. cup of coffee: 230 milligrams of caffeine, on average
  • 1.5-2 oz. shot of espresso: 80-100 milligrams of caffeine
  • 12 oz. cola drink: 30-60 milligrams of caffeine
Is there caffeine in decaf?
A decaffeinated cup of coffee has 97 to 99 percent less caffeine than a caffeinated cup. A 12 oz. cup of decaf generally contains 2 to 10 milligrams of caffeine.
Why is it important to have a Pump Driven Espresso Machine?
There are a couple of kinds of espresso makers out there: Steam driven and Pump driven (there’s also manual where you are the pump). Steam driven machines are less expensive, and when the water boils, it develops only 2-3 bars of pressure to push the hot water through the espresso. In order to get the foamy crema on top of an espresso, which is emulsified oil and air, you need the higher pressure of a pump driven espresso machine. So, if you want better tasting, crema topped espresso, go for the pump-driven espresso machines.
